GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide) are injectable medications that slow gastric emptying, increase satiety, and improve glucose control. Common brand names include Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound.
What are the most overlooked side effects of GLP-1 therapy?
Beyond nausea, the most under-monitored consequences are loss of lean muscle mass, depletion of B vitamins and minerals, impaired detoxification, gallbladder dysfunction, thyroid downshift under caloric restriction, and mitochondrial strain.
How do I protect muscle mass on a GLP-1?
Combine 1.2–1.6 g/kg ideal body weight of protein per day, resistance training 2–4×/week, adequate leucine and creatine, and track body composition rather than scale weight alone.
